State Secretary Vincent Karremans gets a tour of Mentrum Clinic Nieuwe Meer
'I was impressed by the meeting with a client, but also by the conversation with the experience expert. I think it's brave how she uses that vulnerability in her daily work.' This was said by State Secretary Vincent Karremans today after a tour of the Nieuwe Meer Clinic in Mentrum.

Warm and welcoming atmosphere
We received the State Secretary together with a group of officials from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport to take them along in our daily work. Karremans noticed how warm and hospitable the atmosphere is in our High Intensive Care Department of Mentrum. Our colleagues Ruben Loeve and Ingrid van der Schaaf took him through daily practice, so that he could see with his own eyes what it is like to work with people with a serious psychiatric disorder (EPA). During the tour, he came into contact with various practitioners on the ward. The State Secretary showed genuine interest, asked good questions and this resulted in great conversations.
More unruly than on paper
Karremans: 'I have been able to see a lot in a short time and noticed that in practice it is sometimes more unruly than how it seems on paper'. At Mentrum, we think it is important that we can be there for those people who are dealing with very complex problems and often suffer from multiple psychiatric disorders. 'Actually, it shouldn't be that complicated, because it's about people,' says Ruben Loeve.
Regulatory burden down
In order to be able to do our work even better, it would therefore be helpful if the regulatory pressure in mental health care could be reduced, so that there is more room for what our colleagues love to do most – providing good care.
