Diversity and inclusion
We believe that diversity in backgrounds, experiences, opinions and perspectives enriches our care for clients. Find out what Arkin is doing in the field of Diversity and Inclusion.
Arkin's view on Diversity and Inclusion
We are proud of our clients, colleagues and other mental health professionals who are taking steps to increase support for Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) within mental health care. We motivate and support our employees and clients to start the conversation about it, even when it is sensitive.
Everyone is welcome at Arkin to contribute to high-quality, optimal client care. We think it is important that everyone feels included. Regardless of, for example, your cultural background, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, neurodivergence or physical disability. And that attention to Diversity and Inclusion is self-evident, including in our workforce and regulations, care content and communication.
A step better every day
Within Arkin, we set the bar high, but we are not there yet in terms of Diversity & Inclusion. For example, we strive to have a workforce that is a good reflection of society and our client population.
Arkin is an organization that is learning about Diversity & Inclusion: we learn from our mistakes, from the things we have done and also from the things we have left behind. This is how we get better every day.
At Arkin, we celebrate Diversity Day every year with an insightful, inspiring speaker. It is also important to know that in 2021 we signed the Diversity & Inclusion Charter of the Social and Economic Council and committed ourselves to the objectives stated therein. Click here for more information about the charter.
Colors of Arkin
Since 2021, Arkin has also produced the report 'Colours of Arkin' every year. In this report you will find inspiring initiatives in the field of Diversity & Inclusion, mainly initiated by our colleagues themselves. Think of celebrating Keti Koti for clients in the Clinic Nieuwe Meer, a colleague who has developed a Neurodiversity training and an initiative for intervision in the field of diversity.
Redemption holidays
Within Arkin it is possible to redeem holidays. Do you want to celebrate eid-al-fitr and like to take time off and work at Christmas? You can! In addition to this scheme, we are open-minded when it comes to forms of leave, for example, we will soon initiate a scheme for transition leave.
Employee networks
Arkin's most well-known employee network is the Pride network, in which LGBTQI+ colleagues unite. We also have Arkin Young and Arkin Plus, both target groups focused on age: young and old. Arkin applauds the existence of these employee networks and also supports the creation of new such networks. The networks can also learn a lot from each other.
Canal Parade
In 2023, an Arkin boat sailed on the Amsterdam canals during the Amsterdam Pride. The message we conveyed was 'We see you', because we have an eye for everyone's mental health.
