Looking back at the 4th meeting of the Keizersgracht Church 2024
More than 50 (almost) retirees from Arkin gathered during4th ArkinPlus meeting
More than 50 pensioners of Arkin met for the fourth time in the Keizersgrachtkerk for lectures, discussions, networking, music and fun. On Thursday afternoon, 17 October, the ArkinPlus banner pointed the way to the entrance for the annual meeting for former colleagues of Arkin. They received a beautiful folder there. During lunch, acquaintances met, sometimes after years, and new contacts were made.

Deepening and connection
The program under the motto: Past, Present and Future offered every opportunity for deepening and connection. Hans Nusselder opened the meeting and Dick Veluwenkamp of the Executive Board spoke a warm word of welcome. This expressed a lot of appreciation for the generation that helped make Arkin what it is today.
Being a happy and pleasant age, how do you do that?
Getting old is becoming more and more normal, but how we actually grow old is the question. The answer to this came from Mrs. em. Dr. Dorly Deeg, doyen of the LASA study (Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam). We have gained many years of life compared to previous generations, but how do you age happily and pleasantly? The years of research she has led provide clear insights into this. After the meeting, the participants received the book that Dorly wrote about this: Won years, clear insights about how we age, Ambo/Anthos, 2019.
Past, present and future
After the break, the emphasis was on Oral History. Former employees spoke passionately and also proudly about their often innovative work from the past, for example with regard to a care coordination project and the socialization of care. Their own lifeline ran like a thread parallel to the developments in the field. Two retirees who are still working in geriatric psychiatry were interviewed. They are still committed to Arkin a few days a week. Then Elfi Rookhuizen shed light on the present and the future. She is enthusiastically working as Chief Nursing Officer in Arkin to support and strengthen the nursing function.
Afterwards, the band played Gustagroove and Joseff Iping sang a self-made song while enjoying a snack and a drink.
The members of the ArkinPlus working group are unanimously very satisfied with this fourth meeting and will continue to organise large and small activities in 2025. You can read more about this in our newsletters and on our website: www.arkinplus.nl.
