Arkin is smoke-free
Arkin is smoke-free for employees, clients, patients and visitors. This means that we no longer smoke in the buildings, on the grounds and at the entrances.
Why is Arkin smoke free?
Every year, 20,000 people die from smoking. Smokers live on average 13 years shorter than non-smokers. Smoking is also a major problem for people with psychological complaints. They smoke more often and more than average. Smoking can also affect the course of mental disorders and affect the effect of certain psychotropic drugs.
A smoke-free environment is better for everyone's health. This helps employees and clients to live healthier lives. By signing the prevention agreement for smoke-free mental health care in 2025, we are contributing to a smoke-free generation in 2025.
What are the legal frameworks?
- Tobacco and Smoking Products Act: it is mandatory to have a smoking ban in health institutions. Since 1 July 2021, a smoking room is no longer allowed in mental health institutions. Employers must ensure a smoking ban where employees work.
- Working Conditions Act: employers must ensure a healthy and safe workplace.
- Civil Code: employers must protect employees from tobacco smoke.
